Teams Files Live in SharePoint

Overview

Files uploaded to Teams channels are stored in SharePoint. This ensures that documents are securely stored, versioned, and accessible to all Team members based on their permissions.

How Teams Uses SharePoint

Each Microsoft Team has a corresponding SharePoint site.
• The SharePoint site hosts the Team’s file storage.
• The Documents library contains folders for each standard channel.
• Teams simply provides a User Interface layer on top of SharePoint’s file system.

Channel-to-SharePoint Mapping

When you upload a file to a Teams channel:
• It is stored in SharePoint under the channel’s folder.
• File access is managed by Team membership.
• Files remain even if posts are deleted in Teams.
